This work package targets approaches to maximising performance and sustainability of inorganic thin film PV in order to provide a competitive platform to launch the next generation of sustainable thin film materials and advanced device concepts.
WP 1 will explore new materials to match the solar spectrum and to address concerns over raw materials availability for large scale PV production.
The research will be underpinned by a detailed computational (ab initio and atomistic) exploration of emerging and new materials in Bath using the UK teraflop supercomputer (HPCx at Daresbury) to understand the underlying physics of defects and electronic properties.
This approach will be applied not only to materials in this work package but also to materials being screened in the SUPERGEN PLUS proposal. The programme will ensure that PV21 will be at the forefront of the Basic Research and Fundamentals identified in ref.1.
