Head of the Photovoltaics and Thin Films Group. Expert on growth, processing and characterisation of thin film PV materials and devices with 20 years experience in both academia and industry.

Formerly Team Leader at BP Solar working on laser buried grid devices, and pioneering research themes on thin film crystalline silicon and III-V technologies. Now focussed on thin film crystalline silicon growth on glass using plasma CVD, low temperature silicon epitaxy, fabrication of silicon solar cells.

Active in novel concepts for PV devices including silicon nanowire growth and plasmonic solar cells. He has held more than 10 grants on work related to PV from the EPSRC, the Leverhulme Trust and industry (including BP Solar).

Fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK); member of the UK network for PV materials and devices, 'PV-NET'. Research group leader for the UK SUPERGEN 'PV-21' consortium. Collaborators include Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin.
